December 13, 2007 To my colleagues, I am writing you to announce my retirement from Pivotal Research Centers and from clinical research as a principal investigator. You may know that three years ago I sold Pivotal Research to Pioneer Behavioral Health (www.phc-inc.com) a publicly traded company that operates a chain of outpatient and inpatient mental health facilities. Since then we expanded to Salt Lake City from our two locations in metro Phoenix. Since then, we have hired two full time experienced physician investigators: Louise Taber, MD, boarded in internal medicine, and Sidney Spector, MD, boarded in neurology. Both are excellent investigators in their own right and bring a tremendous depth of experience and passion to their work. Please download their CVs from www.pivotalresearch.com. You will also find them a delight to work with, both professionally and personally. I should also mention Daniel Vine, MD, boarded in neurology, who continues as the investigator at our Salt Lake City location. My last official day is December 31, but I will continue on in an active consulting role. Except for some paperwork, the transition should be close to seamless. Both Dr. Taber and Dr. Spector are fully trained and experienced in the assessment measures we have been using for years at Pivotal. They have been assuming PI responsibilities as new studies have been initiated. We will formally transfer the other studies during the remainder of December. I will be available as needed to facilitate the paperwork. Dr. Spector is located in our Mesa office and Dr. Taber is based in our Peoria office. The company I leave behind is stronger and more capable than ever. Pivotal has a robust and growing Phase 1 Unit and three locations doing outpatient (phase 2-4) clinical research. Pivotal Research is one of the largest dedicated research sites in the country with over 50 employees. We have specialized departments including subject recruitment with a full time call center, regulatory, finance, phase 1 and clinical operations. These are the same coordinators, regulatory administrators and budget and contract people you have been working with right along, and frankly, we both know who really gets the job done. I have depended on them to do their quality work day in and day out. We have performed, as a company, over 600 clinical trials in multiple indications (over 40) ranging from CNS (neurology and psychiatry), to pain, and internal medicine. We have been part of over 50 successful NDAs, several starting with their first dose at our facility. Each Pivotal Research location is headed by a full time experienced investigator. As before, you have full access to all our investigators and any of our managers and staff at any time to propose a study, ask a question or get an update. I have attached a contact sheet for your convenience. You can learn more about our facilities, locations and investigators online at www.pivotalresearch.com. Our contact list and numbers are listed online as well. I encourage you to call. You can count on them to deliver. On a personal note, I will miss all the truly great people and friends I have worked with over the years. After almost twenty years in research, I felt I still had time for a new career. I will be joining a medical diagnostic company, Provista Life Sciences (www.provistals.com) as Chief Medical Officer. Pivotal Research would not have happened without lots of help. Special thanks go to Randall Seiffert formerly at California Clinical Trials and my brother in law and Pivotal’s CEO, Mike Colombo. Both taught me things I would never have learned on my own, and both made critical contributions to Pivotal’s success. What really brought the place to life was the hard work and dedication of all the people who work and have worked at Pivotal over the years. I want to publicly recognize Rosemary LaSalle, our head of regulatory, and the second person we ever hired. Rosemary has set the pace for excellence throughout our entire company. She and many others have influenced me in countless ways. I am a far better person for the experience at Pivotal. I will miss them, and you, very much. Thank you,
